Spirit Mountain Community Fund supports Stewardship Program
A generous grant from the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde’s Spirit Mountain Community Fund will enable Three Rivers’ Stewardship program to grow.
Since 1997, the Spirit Mountain Community Fund has invested over $35 million in the Tribe’s eleven-county area. Says Fund Director, Shelley Hanson, “Grants like this one allow the Fund to support the Tribe’s environmental interests. Allowing landowners the freedom to retain ownership while preserving the ecosystem on their property – that is a win-win situation.”
And this is exactly what we do. With the grant, Three Rivers is restoring wild forests and waterways on privately held conservation lands. We’re removing invasive plants and planting native trees, shrubs and wildflowers. We then monitor results to better understand and teach others about restoration.
To date, Three Rivers and our landowners have begun stewardship of more than a dozen of our protected forests and creeks. Now we are able to return to some of those lands and to add some new, ecologically important properties to our stewardship portfolio.
Thank you, Grand Ronde and the Fund!
